About the business days calculator

Many deadlines are measured in business days, not calendar days — excluding weekends (and often holidays). This calculator counts the working days between two dates, or finds the date a set number of business days from a start date.

It’s essential for shipping estimates, contract deadlines, payroll cut-offs and project schedules.

A business-day count walks each date in the range and keeps only Monday through Friday, dropping Saturdays and Sundays. Because weekends fall unevenly across a span, seven calendar days are usually five business days but can be four or six depending on where the weekend lands. Counting them by hand is easy to get wrong near month boundaries, which is exactly where deadlines tend to fall.

Weekends are consistent worldwide, but public holidays are not — they vary by country, state and even industry, and some shift each year. A deadline of “10 business days” can land on a different date depending on which holidays are observed. This calculator excludes weekends automatically; when a holiday falls inside your range, subtract it as well to match your local working calendar.

Frequently asked questions

What is a business day?

A business day is a standard working day, typically Monday to Friday, excluding weekends and often public holidays. Deadlines and delivery estimates are frequently given in business days.

How do I count business days between two dates?

Count the total days, then remove Saturdays and Sundays (and any holidays). This calculator does it automatically so you get an accurate working-day count.

Does this calculator exclude holidays?

It excludes weekends by default. Public holidays vary by country and region, so check whether specific holidays in the period also need to be excluded for your purpose.

Why use business days instead of calendar days?

Because most work, shipping and financial processing only happens on working days. Measuring in business days gives a more realistic timeline than counting every calendar day.
